My most totalitarian opinion is that we should ban farming for meat once the price and quality of artificial meats hits a certain threshold. It’s an overwhelmingly ethical choice

@sock_dem Absolutely the fuck not. I'm entirely in favor of developing synthetic meat for the purpose of space exploration. But this idea as if it should be forced over the entirety of aviculture is absolutely insane.
@sock_dem > overwhelming ethical choice Nearly 800K people are employed by the Beef Cattle Production industry. How many people immediately lose their jobs once everything becomes artificial. 'overwhelming ethical choice'
@sock_dem And then the price will immediately skyrocket. EVEN if your goal is to implement labmeats, you need to do it in a phased manner and create demand, rather than end supply of real meat. And have a supply chain for it that will withstand any feasible war.
@sock_dem Yeah I agree. If the quality of artificial meat is equal or superior to "natural" meat, and it becomes more economically viable (so the market is able to support itself and replaces traditional meat before acutally banning it) there's literally no reason to not support that.
