Not many of us know that like humans, elephants too share an endearing bond of friendship. This is a true story of friendship between Bhama and kamatchi, two beautiful elephants at our Elephant camp at Theppakadu, Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu who are best friends for the past 55 years ! Bhama (age 75) & Kamatchi (age 65) are truly brave, loyal and affectionate. When Bhama's Mahout Thiru Gopan was attacked & injured by a leopard inside the forest when he took her for grazing, Bhama single handedly chased away the leopard & saved the life of her Mahout. Kamatchi was once attacked by a tusker and it took years for her wound to heal, but she braved it all. The friends always have to stand next to each other while taking food at the camp. They love to eat sugarcane and yes no one can dare give the sugarcane treat only to one, it has to be always given to both. The camp management too needs a pat at the back for taking such good care of these two along with 27 other elephants including two calves at the camp which is one of the oldest in Asia. Apart from the scientific management practices, the TN Forest Department takes best care possible for these gentle giants with sensitivity and empathy. Here is wishing the best to these two grand majestic elephants with a heart of gold who are also shining examples of love affection, loyalty and friendship. #BhamaKamatchi #friendship #elephants #TNForest video- Dr Rajesh
