My "high functioning autism" is basically everyone else seeing me as "completely normal but maybe just a bit picky/particular"... while internally it's me in constant sensory overload, social overload, and fighting against my executive dysfunction to just do stuff
@sensorystories_ Yup, this is me, it’s really frustrating to not be taken seriously in this way. I’m having a pretty high level of self control in sensory hell all day and people think that’s a sign that nothing is wrong 🤬
@sensorystories_ Same. It's exactly how I feel most of the time
@sensorystories_ I was informed early on. From Drs and researchers. They do not acknowledge low/high functioning autism. No such thing. This is a term schools/regional centers made up for Funding in special ed.
@sensorystories_ @AutisticCallum_ That’s the worst stereotype for my autism that I’ve ever had or found..
@sensorystories_ Well written, and that applies to me as well.
@sensorystories_ 'Of course she's not autistic but also what's wrong with her??"
@sensorystories_ My own mother was incredulous when i told her i was austistic. She didn't remember or notice all of the times I was in an internal nightmare as a child (like every meal where I didn't get to pick what food I ate)
@sensorystories_ @IAmIronMan42522 One sees similar symptoms in people with cronic fatigue syndrome. So far the only „treatment“ is „pacing“. Make sure to take time for yourself. 🤷🏽♀️
@sensorystories_ I asked for accommodations at my job because I already had burnouts. They proposed a phone headset 😐
