I reported in February about a woman with a fatal fetal diagnosis in Texas. She spent thousands to go out of state for an abortion. My latest story is what happens when you can’t afford to do that: npr.org/sections/healt…
@selenasd @arishapiro My husband and I both cried over this story.
@selenasd So sad and cruel. To dig deeper with this story: Did the state put the mother’s life in jeopardy by making her go to term? Negligence? Could she sue the state? Is there a lawyer who would take this on? Why are doctors not advocating more strongly? Best medical practice?
@selenasd "There was no way I could go into the office because I couldn't hear the 'Oh, my gosh, how far along are you?'"
@selenasd Thank you for this important reporting on a devastating topic. 22 years and 8 days ago, I gave birth to a baby with anencephaly. 22 years ago - in Texas - we were given the choice to induce labor at 20 weeks gestation or carry the baby to term. 1/
@selenasd What a heart breaking story! This could have been handled better. This is the horrendous tragedy the elected officials of my state have brought upon families 😞#MothersAgainstGregAbbott
@selenasd @sarahmccammon This is absolutely an abomination. It’s outrageous.
@selenasd These lines are really something... Pro-life group spox: "I do believe the Texas laws are working as designed" "She says several private and religious organizations provide free caskets and other services" & she'd support public funds for baby funerals
