Centuries of tribal wisdom now have a digital home. TribeX, a first-of-its-kind digital learning platform for India's tribal art, culture and traditional knowledge systems, was launched today at the National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. Building stronger institutions is key to strengthening tribal development. Highlighting the rationale behind the workshop, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Smt. Ranjana Chopra said that Tribal Research Institutes must be empowered to emerge as centres of knowledge, research and policy support. Addressing participants at the National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes in Bhubaneswar, she remarked: "While tribal development has traditionally focused on health, education, infrastructure and other socio-economic indicators, there is an equally important need to strengthen the institutions that preserve tribal heritage, protect constitutional rights and generate evidence for policymaking. On Day 1 of the National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes, Breakout Sessions - Group 1 and Group 2 deliberated on transforming TRIs into vibrant knowledge, cultural and research hubs for tribal development. Group 1, moderated by Shri Anant Prakash Pandey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, featured experts from the Anthropological Survey of India, Centre of Advanced Tribal Studies (COATS) Odisha, Delhi School of Economics, Tata Steel Foundation and IGNCA, focusing on preserving tribal languages, indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage through documentation, digital repositories and institutional partnerships. Group 2, moderated by Ms. Deepali Masirkar, Director, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, brought together experts from CIIL, NID Haryana and the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme to deliberate on research priorities, tribal data systems, baseline surveys and quality standards for evidence-based policymaking.
