Funny story, I had a conversation with a lady yesterday. She was talking to a mutual friend beside me about memorial day and how it originated. I asked her, were you aware that the slaves in 1865 were draping flowers over the Union soldier's graves at an old racecourse/confederate-held captured Union prison where it's believed the earliest ceremony took place so that no one would forget the soldiers and the ceremony was later adopted by locals. I also said; Congress had not made what we know as Memorial Day a federal holiday until 1971. Tough conversation; she said I was disrespecting American soldiers by trying to spread false information, right off the jump..... By the time we were done, looking this up and comparing information. Let's just say she learned something new!!
@KeneAkers People think white washing history is exclusively about hiding white sin. It is also about burying black achievement.
@sameastheold @KeneAkers And women’s achievements, and Asian, and Indigenous
@sameastheold @KeneAkers That’s because it’s all about dehumanization. If it doesn’t fit their narrative, they don’t want to hear it.
@sameastheold @KeneAkers It’s all about burying black achievements.
@sameastheold @KeneAkers Yes, that's really important!
