This represents a formal declaration that the June 18 ceasefire framework has collapsed entirely. Iran also blamed the U.S. for sabotaging the Muscat talks. If changing the balance of power in the Strait of Hormuz were easy, America would have done it long ago. The problem is cost. The Strait matters because the petrodollar is under pressure and Iran holds significant strategic leverage in the Gulf. Reversing that balance would require a war far bigger than Washington appears willing to fight. That is Trump’s dilemma: do too little, and America’s strategic position continues to erode; do too much, and he risks a regional war. The path to dealing with Iran is not through humiliation but through recognizing its strategic interests. States with a strong sense of history and identity rarely bend under pressure. They negotiate when they are treated as equals.
