The media euphemism that Keir Starmer has ‘vacated his seat’ is an utter travesty. Almost as if he accidentally wafted away on a gust of wind. Be honest. He u-turned on his promise to stay as an MP, deserted his constituents and his party - for what? To go and make money on the international circuit. The only thing forensic about him is the chalk outline he has left behind instead of a meaningful legacy. A fitting epitaph to the worst PM in our movements history. Believe me, it’s not personal in anyway. I wish him well. But we cannot allow the media and others to sugarcoat just how bad his govt was, by the standards OUR movement expects. We must have an honest analysis of it it. About the toxic culture it fostered, the behaviour it condoned. One that enabled a small clique to bring back Peter Mandelson into the heart of govt. To expel thousands of members for no reason. To clamp down on the right to protest. To allow a genocide to unfold and do next to nothing about it. If we don’t ask ourselves how this happened and why, if we don’t interrogate this sorry chapter - then we are doomed to repeat it. So no, let’s not sugarcoat his legacy.

The Israeli diaspora minister has published a list of organisations whose members should not be allowed to enter Israel - the list includes Save the Children, Oxfam, the Norwegian Refugee Council and Medical Aid for Palestinians.

I think Ed deserves credit and support for this. He will have driven it, and fair play to the PM for listening. Many wanted us to go further. We may yet, but this is a start and it should be welcomed. The backlash from the US is already coming. That’s no surprise, given Trump and what he stands for. Being on the wrong side of the worst President of the modern era is probably a good place to be on this issue. It remains to be seen how the government will stop settlement goods and services being laundered through Israel proper. But it’s a good start, and one that will mean a great deal to Palestinians, and to people here and abroad who want a values-based Britain. There are signs from the Foreign Secretary’s statement that this is part of a wider reset of relations with Israel, and hopefully more active support for Palestinians. This offers encouragement that more will follow. These positions are the bare minimum a Labour government should be taking, and it should never have taken so long to get here. “It worked, boom.” That’s Nigel Farage celebrating a Reform UK plot to break election law - by having a US company secretly pay for three influential political polls that benefitted the party. Earlier in the investigation, Reform’s Head of Policy James Orr and senior advisor Dan Jukes arranged for a Verbatim reporter to pay for the polls through a US company. Orr and Jukes believed the firm was run by the reporter’s American father. Mr Farage was filmed by undercover reporters from @Verbatim_Media as part of a year-long investigation that Channel 4 News has thoroughly checked and verified. This meeting took place in his Clacton constituency in July - when Mr Farage was fighting a by-election he called after separate allegations about his finances. BBC presenter Katty Kay has caused outrage by referring to the skirmish in Gaza as a “genocide”, just because that’s what it is, according to both the dictionary and international law. Kay is one of the BBC’s most prominent journalists in the US and a regular on MS NOW’s Morning Joe. In a disgraceful outburst of antisemitism, she said the following: “I know there is so much anger in the Democratic Party, understandably, and about what has happened in Gaza and Israel, and the government of Netanyahu’s response to that, and the genocide that is being committed there.” Kay made the disgraceful comment on her own podcast The Rest Is Politics: US, and BBC bosses naturally felt the need to rebuke her. A listener complained to the BBC that Kay had presented a “contested characterisation” as fact. I’d like to reassure Zionists that if Kay had said this is not a genocide, she would not be in trouble. She just got this one the wrong away around. Thankfully, the BBC has strict impartiality guidelines that recognise Israel’s genocide pass and it was quick to issue a grovelling apology. A spokesperson said the following: “We would like to unreservedly apologise to the only democracy in the Middle East for our presenter’s legally correct opinion that she expressed on her own podcast that was absolutely nothing to do with us. BBC guidelines clearly state that our presenters must never be this accurate with their words. Katty Kay has failed to uphold them. “For example, rule 1.2 states that telling the truth about Israel is a sackable offence. I’m unclear why this is not rule 1.1 and I’m deeply sorry for any offence caused. “Furthermore, rule 1.6 states that we can only use words like ‘genocide’ when talking about bad countries like Russia or China—and rule 3.9 states that we must never follow the legal or technical definitions of words, and should instead use them in ambiguous ways. Clarity about Israel is antisemitic. “We at the BBC would like to send our warmest regards to the Netanyahu family and everyone who supports their brave mission in Gaza. We have offered them an undisclosed compensation sum and are making plans to publicly flog Kay for her comments. “Understandably, the Israeli government has highlighted deep concerns over the matter. It has explained that if the flogging is not satisfactory, the IDF will blow up Kay’s entire neighbourhood and BBC HQ. We fully support whatever action it chooses to take. Israel has every right to defend itself from the truth.”

The Jewish activist Tony Greenstein, whose opposition to the Gaza genocide will see him on trial in August for "supporting terrorism", is now being hounded – like other prominent Palestine solidarity activists – with a freeze on his bank accounts. This is being directed by the government through the National Crime Agency. Santander are the latest culprits to engage in what Greenstein calls "financial terrorism", after similar bank freezes from Nationwide, HSBC and First Direct. One of the accounts frozen by Santander held money raised to help a Palestinian children's centre in Jenin.
