Sepolia testnet validators: update your nodes. Today at ~4pm, we’ll see Glamsterdam (Gloas + Amsterdam) go live on Sepolia. This marks a major milestone for Glamsterdam and for Ethereum more broadly. Glamsterdam’s main focus has been scaling, but at the same time the fork also reduces trust requirements, improves sync, and harmonizes resource pricing to improve DoS resistance as the chain scales. It will likely be the largest Ethereum fork since the Merge, and it has been ambitious from the beginning. ePBS and BALs were selected as headliners early on, and the fork’s theme - scaling - evolved quite naturally from there. When core devs later decided to reprice the EVM as well, the fork’s surface area increased quite a lot and Glamsterdam became a much broader upgrade than initially expected. That also meant more work across specs, clients, tooling, and testing. Almost a year of benchmarking, implementation work, refining specs, testing and devnets followed, and over time Glamsterdam has really started to harden. It has also been the first fork where AI played a major role across basically the whole pipeline: research, benchmarking, testing, client implementations, and security audits, which is interesting to witness. One can clearly feel the accelerated pace at the frontlines: while Sepolia is forking to Glamsterdam, core devs are already busy shipping the first Hegota devnets. Ethereum is not yet where it needs to be, but we’re getting there. Fork after fork, the chain becomes more scalable, more robust, and more capable. And with post-quantum security likely becoming one of the main focus areas over the next few years, there is still a lot ahead.

Following last week’s infrastructure investigation, MetaMask Staking has nearly completed processing the exit of its Lido validators without incident. The exited ETH will continue its re-entry to the Lido protocol over the coming weeks. The operator disclosed the issue early and acted quickly, which kept the impact to stETH holders minimal. As the final set of validators are completing their exits, stETH APR is 2.23% - at or above where it has been since August. stETH rewards come from a diverse set of over 600 independent Node Operators across the Curated and Community Staking Modules, so a precautionary exit by one of the larger operators in the protocol has a limited effect on total rewards. The recent reduction in the Ethereum entry queue also means newly staked ETH starts earning sooner, netting more rewards for all Lido stakers. This is a new milestone for our proposal to make Ethereum blocks faster 🎉 Btw.. Faster blocks => - Better UX - Better markets - Faster finality and fast confirmation rule - And improved censorship-resistance too! TLDR: More value for the network, its users, and ETH, without compromising on the core values and properties of Ethereum. This means that now it will be considered more seriously, including testing, towards inclusion in future devnets once headliners (FOCIL and frame transactions) are stable. In particular, the call today revealed the appetite for a phased approach, installing the plumbing which allows us to reduce the slot time in Ethereum clients, and deciding to pull the trigger based on further testing. Ultimately, this is how EIP-8198 is designed, so CFI'ing today allows us to move forward with more of the plumbing work, and start looking into testing towards an actual slot reduction from 12 to 10 seconds. This is a first reduction, as EIP-8198 opens the door for progressively lower slot times, as they get sufficiently safe to ship. In parallel, as discussed on the call too, we are continuing our ecosystem survey and outreach of deployed smart contracts with a slot time dependency. We have reached out to more teams on this. --- Faster slots are one important dimension of our Faster Ethereum body of work. A more responsive network helps cement its role as a liquidity hub and as the heartbeat of the network as a whole.
