Alternatively, #AbolishTheDraft Let kids decide where they want to play within cap constraints. Teams can only offer ELCs. That would entirely eliminate tanking and force teams to offer players opportunity and make their clubs attractive destinations.

“I think this is terrible” Okay, well it works in Europe. More importantly, I don’t like that 18 year olds (or really anyone) are told who their employer is and where they need to live/play. Players should get to choose earlier, so then lower UFA age to 24
@racheldoerrie Winnipeg may never sign a player again
@racheldoerrie smaller market teams would get destroyed unless they have no tax income. and Leafs fans/media would be insufferable any time a player didnt choose Toronto
@racheldoerrie @donnovanbennett, you liked this post. Assuming you agree with Rachel, why would this work in the NHL?
@racheldoerrie Interesting idea but the low tax, warm weather states will have an unfair advantage
@racheldoerrie Well Kansas City is going to lose a lot of prospects then
This has to be one of the worst ideas of all time lol. This would destroy the league. Only 5 or 6 teams would ever compete…. Small markets would collapse… it would be a 15 (or less) team league within 10 years. Essentially ruining so many opportunities for young players of the future…. Just a brutal idea
