It has been two years since hundreds of students with @princetonIXnow occupied the lawn in front of Nassau Hall calling for Title IX reform and justice for survivors, and we are still waiting to see #CareAndChange. (1/4)
“How can you conduct a review when you don’t talk to the people directly affected by Title IX?” The activists of @PrincetonIXnow have already improved @Princeton 's Title IX policies — and they're not finished holding Princeton accountable. paw.princeton.edu/article/path-r…
Our response to the External Review and Joint Committee reports - princetonixnow.com/press
The day before students left campus for Fall Break, Princeton University released two reports addressing some of the concerns we brought up during the protest last May—one released by the Joint Committee, one by the External Review. sexualmisconduct.princeton.edu/reports
NEWS | As Will was introduced by President Christopher L. Eisgruber ’83, students involved with the protest — many of whom wore purple to show solidarity — removed their traditional gowns and stood while facing away from Will. dailyprincetonian.com/article/2019/0…
President Eisgruber’s speech at @Princeton commencement was directly in response to our peaceful and silent protest. When we are peaceful, he is contemptuous. Shame. Next time, you can just @ us, President Eisgruber.
@princetonIXnow: “...over 1,400 people have signed a petition stating they won’t contribute to Princeton’s annual giving fund until the students’ demands for reforms are met.” $$$ talks for universities...great idea! #StandInSolidarity #TakeBackScience #MeTooSTEM
Class President Chris Umanzor giving his address while wearing a 💜Listen & Act💜 button! This is the first time an official Princeton communication has shown ANY imagery of the protest...

@SharonMusa6 @princetonIXnow If she has to pay restitution to Princeton for speaking out, it shows that the administration doesn’t understand the impact of sexual violence on a student.
Show support for survivors. @Princeton, it's time to Listen & Act! Make this P-Rade count. @PrincetonIXnow #princetonreunions #princetonixnow
Students at Baccalaureate are protesting speaker George Will, though the cameras won’t show it to families watching the simulcast outside
We will not remain idly by when a sexual assault denier is brought to speak at @Princeton’s baccalaureate. #PrincetonIXNow
WOW! @Princeton is having a #metoo panel. And placed BRETT KAVAUAGH'S LAWYER on it. All while students have been working to REDUCE rape culture on their campus. What an insult to Tarana Burke--and all survivors.
#metoo Is about survivors. Why would an assailant's attorney be placed on the panel? Do you know what #metoo is about @Princeton???

(1/4)
Fun fact: this was the day before @Princeton President Eisgruber used his *graduation speech* to diminish & insult our organizing against sexual violence as @PrincetonIXnow, and the day after they brought sexual assault denier George Will to do the same. But a giant squirrel!
... Okay on second thought, maybe we do need to. At Class Day 2019, Pres. Eisgruber presented #Princeton19 with a giant toy squirrel - along with the traditional honorary keys to the University - to remind them of their very own "Squirrel Days" on campus. princeton.edu/news/2019/06/0…
“How can you conduct a review when you don’t talk to the people directly affected by Title IX?” The activists of @PrincetonIXnow have already improved @Princeton 's Title IX policies — and they're not finished holding Princeton accountable. paw.princeton.edu/article/path-r…
And I hope students will continue to follow in their example. Student organizing is hard and exhausting, and the University pretends to (and in some ways does) have complete power over students' lives. But I'm inspired by the students who choose to fight anyway. 18/
I'm really proud of everyone who was and is involved, and I know that this is not the end. I'm not sure what's going to happen next, and I'm sad I'm not on campus to help. But I know that the folks with @princetonIXnow are brilliant, passionate, loving, justice fighters. 17/
Don't get me wrong, I expected nothing from the University. I've been through enough committee meetings to know that they're bullshit, meant to slow students down and give the illusion of University allyship. But I'm pissed anyway, because I know how much everyone sacrificed. 16/
We cried and laughed. And most importantly, we put in the work. And how did @Princeton respond? WITH SOME CALIBRI-ASS 11-POINT FONT WORD DOCUMENT WITH ALMOST NO RESEARCH, NO COMMITMENT TO ANYTHING, AND TOTAL DISMISSAL OF OUR DEMANDS. 15/ sexualmisconduct.princeton.edu/sites/sexualmi…
We concluded that ultimately we keep us safe. So during reunions, we plastered campus with anti-violence messaging & educated ppl on bystander intervention. Members worked all summer to imagine what student pathways for addressing & preventing sexual violence might look like. 14/
We also called for the immediate departmentalization of @PrincetonGSS, in recognition that intersectional analysis of power, identity, and violence is key to changing campus culture, and that Princeton is lagging behind other institutions by refusing to departmentalize GSS. 13/
We knew that healing and resources for survivors must be centered. So we called for the establishment of a fund to assist students with mental health care costs, for more service providers, and for providers that actually matched the diversity of students and survivors. 12/
We recognized that we can't draw artificial divides–that gender, racial, homo/transphobic & other forms of violence intersect. So we called for an Office of Intersectional Violence Investigation to investigate compounded violence though an intersectional framework. 11/
We knew that Title IX is not *the* answer, & that we need to find other ways to respond to violence outside of carceral logics. So we called for the creation of an opt-in restorative justice track. We studied transformative justice & thought through what it looks like for us. 10/
We demanded transparency and an external review of the Title IX process. We called for the hiring of social workers that could walk students through the process and advocate for them throughout. We called for more diversity in service providers. 9/
It was and is not perfect or even always good. But it was a beautiful time of people coming together to work things out and envision what peace and justice and love put into action might look like. It materialized in this list of calls for change. 8/ princetonixnow.com/reforms
We also made lots of mistakes. Loud whiteness and egos were constantly present. Students of color and especially Black students, as always, expended more emotional and physical energy than most. Low-income students worried more about financial consequences for actions. 7/
We had lots of different voices at the table. It was women of color who catalyzed the movement. We were survivor-led. We had a solid cohort of abolitionist organizers, who put forward transformative justice and called out carceral logics where we saw them. 6/
Our movement was & is rooted in the experiences of survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence on campus. It arose because brave survivors came together in recognition that what we have isn't working. We sat together, for HOURS, talking through what we have & what we want. 5/
I'm not sure who will read this, but I want to highlight the work we did through @princetonIXnow. Because it was fucking amazing, and the movement is not over. It taught me so much about what can happen when committed people sit down together and do the work. 4/
These things are not surprising, but they are further evidence that University admins are not on your side, students. They might give you good things sometimes, when it benefits them, but make no mistake about their benevolence. 3/
As expected, the University's report is TRASH. They used the classic tactics of suppression. Took much longer than they committed to. Released it THE DAY BEFORE FALL BREAK so that organizing an immediate response would be impossible. Didn't address what they said they would. 2/
