Having a good build system should be a major factor in choosing the technology to build a package, even if it somewhat outweighs the developer's comfort. A part of being a good build system is reproducibility.

Build #OCI containers with #Bazel in one command: popovicu.com/posts/containe… One command will compile your source code, create a container layer tar, and finally create a self-contained tarball for #Docker deployment.

Go #gRPC servers with #Bazel in one command: popovicu.com/posts/go-grpc-… It used to be a bit difficult to get Go, gRPC and Bazel to play together, but with the new Bazel module system things are better. This text has an end-to-end walkthrough for a service that adds up 2 numbers.

Solved! I needed to explicitly enable the new ARM ABI (EABI) in the kernel since that’s what newer GCC defaults to, even on older ARM arch. Additionally, I had to build with GCC without hardware float. Building with it causes the binary to just spin in place mysteriously.

Sometimes when I change the program a bit, init dies with an error code 4 or something. Googling reveals that it means an illegal CPU instruction. This reinforces my suspicion that this a part of joys called compiling for ARM. Buildroot image also crashes similarly.

For those that are curious, here’s what I ended up doing for an Allwinner chip: 1) Boot into the FEL mode (God help you with hacks you need for that) 2) Use sunxi-tools to get the flash image over USB (and hope it doesn’t time out) 3) Use github.com/apritzel/sunxi… to analyze

#embedded Is there an easy way to inspect filesystems on a flash memory image? I bought a Linux board with minimal documentation, and I can drop into U-Boot. If I can fetch the bytes from onboard flash, what's the right way to inspect it, preferably reading the U-Boot config?
This reads like the opening to a movie. AGI is near.
A good throwback on how software engineers at AWS saw no practical value in building blockchain infrastructure, but did it so startups flush with cash raised *specifically* for blockchain could spend it with them. In a gold rush, manufacture and sell shovels. What AWS did!

I searched the whole Internet upside down, but once again, X to the rescue. Thanks a lot @null_roy, this is exactly what I was missing. I'm getting all the right things in the kernel now! 🤙

It made nodejs unusable because of how hard it became to import a file, I say god bless Jared and vc money
@kettanaito Not all projects have to be based on communism, the best innovations have always come from capitalism
@dotnetschizo stock android app repackaged in a $199 tamagachi? Ill take it.
@StephanSturges The point is that we already have an android powered, touchscreen - digital interface called a smartphone. This just further points out how much of a completed unneeded product this was.
@nixcraft SystemD has turned Linux into a totally different OS and not for the better. Glad there’s always BSD.
I would have understood the crappy user interface if they have used a RTOS (maybe combined with a ESP32). But they have a full Linux on the R1 and that was the best UI they could come up with? Scary state of technology adoption. At least it explains the short battery runtime.
Ok so people already cracked the rabbit R1 and found out its android. People dumped the apk and i got it working (with root and a few mods) on a standard ass phone lmaoo
I like the design but “shaking” as a common input method is not a smart choice. AI box crapware seems to be a symptome of the current AI buzz. All this functionality will be integrated into phones in the next months and years. There is no market for an AI box only product.…
@jessechenglyu I'm not a CEO of a company but it seems like if you are getting 5x battery life improvements in a post launch patch, you had piss poor QA, Testing, and dev teams OR you launched a product that wasn't even remotely ready.
@dfern_eth @Truthcoin Also, the IRS processed and (ostensibly) accepted his exit tax (a tax which is virtually sinful). They shouldn't get to suspend a Damoclean sword over every emigrant's head. This is patently absurd and it's shameful and terrifying precedent.
@jessechenglyu “you can't take your time polishing features” 🤦♂️
@jessechenglyu you shouldn't be selling unfinished products, but good job grifting the VC class
@jessechenglyu Jesse, cut the crap! Your team is a prime example of what not to do in tech. The way you and your influencers hyped this product as the 'next big thing' is pathetic m. It's ridiculous that some of the biggest tech influencers on this platform promoted this product for months…
@ryanfenwick Isn’t that LITERALLY what he’s criticising?
@EpicallyHarshed 💯 I wish someone did honest reviews to half-backed software the same way it’s done with hardware. The MVP trap is real
@popovicu94 @GroqInc @SambaNovaAI did a comparison here: x.com/terrytjw/statu…
collated this while doing some research on which model is the biggest bang for the buck for app building llama3 models hosted on Groq are goated 🤤 only downside is the 8k context... 🧠 = smart models (more params) ⚡️ = fast models (less params) link to notion page in ALT
I need to know who made this pixel art. It's awesome!
