the chapo/dirtbag stereotype of libs is often both uncharitable and inaccurate, but the reaction of many elite liberal lawyers to suggesting sotomayor retire show that it's basically right for lots of that specific subgroup
sorry but I can't blame people for not taking your concerns about incipient authoritarianism seriously, even if I mainly agree with them, if you get huffy about this.
@opinonhaver It's true of those lawyers who are against retirement
@opinonhaver They themselves are elites so their experience with libs is actually with a subset of lib elites
@opinonhaver The chapo stereotype is accurate for sort of "elite" libs, i.e. their social circles. Less so for flyover hicklibs.
@opinonhaver Sotomayor discourse (ie, DSA and you) is to politics and law as sports talk radio is to sports.
@opinonhaver Its insane that the same ppl who are like you have to vote for biden because justices turn around n get mad at the request that justices be even slightly strategic
@opinonhaver lawyers (@RyanRadia excluded) are quite terrible as a general rule
@opinonhaver In general lawyers are the most insufferable group on the planet, they have a few professional norms that they believe are substitutes for political strategy, morality, etc
@opinonhaver Across the political centre there is a subgroup of aging establishment politicos who seem to react to discourse the way dogs do - that is, they can only hear tone, not content.
@opinonhaver the 5-4/ALAB crowd is a bit different from the chapo crowd, and their understanding of elite liberal lawyers is spot on
