Princeton University’s Innovations for Successful Societies (ISS) program used to track and curate transformational leadership at the subnational level in Nigeria. 4 Nigerian transformative leaders were featured. Bola Tinubu, Donald Duke, Babatunde Fashola and Ahmed Makarfi. Donald Duke was far ahead of his time. He saw Tinapa, Obudu ranch, clean and green Calabar, and civil service reforms. Bola Ahmed Tinubu saw the Free trade zone, Eko Atlantic, Tax and institutional reforms, Judicial reforms, civil service digitization. Obi had nothing in his mind apart from saving money in his bank, and investing state funds in a family beer business. Nothing transformative up till this day can be linked to him.

Lagos (Lagoon) got its name from the Portuguese, who traded with the Yorubas for about 300 years, long before the arrival of the British or the idea of a Nigeria. Lagos was even difficult for their ships to dock in. They berthed at the forcados & used smaller boats to come to Lagos to trade. That the colonial capital was moved to Lagos was also because the British could build on that trading structure. Even in colonial times, the western region was ahead of other regions because it was built on a civilization state of a Yoruba empire & structured states. Workers of the western region were better paid than Nigerian federal workers. Those who came to Lagos came to partake in its prosperity. If they could develop a Lagos of their own, they wouldn't need to come to Lagos.

@iyaboawokoya Yes mama, but I think it would have been fair and acceptable to say that Nigerians developed Lagos that say Igbos did. Every tribe are represented in Lagos so one shouldn't claim the success of Lagos and if any should, it should be the owners of the land.

That comment "what does a police know about war?" is ignorant and dangerous. Let me educate you. The Nigeria Police Force is not just traffic control and station guards. The Police Mobile Force (PMF) , Police Special Forces (Rangers) , Special Intervention Squad (SIS) , and Counter Terrorism Units (CTU) are high‑risk, special operations units that have paid the ultimate price in safeguarding our country. They have been deployed to the North‑East, North‑West, and other theatres. They have fought alongside the military. They have suffered casualties too. They have rescued hostages. They have raided t£rr0r!st hideouts. A police officer in the CTU is not directing traffic. He is clearing a room, conducting an ambush, or providing close protection in a high‑threat environment. What does a police know about war? Ask the families of the fallen PMF officers. Ask the survivors of t£rr0r!st attacks who were rescued by SIS operatives. Ask the communities where police special forces have held the line while waiting for military reinforcement. The military and police are different institutions with distinct mandates. But in asymmetric warfare, the lines blur. And police special units have consistently stepped up when called. Their sacrifices will always count. And anyone who dismisses them as "knowing nothing about war" has clearly never seen them in action. Respect the uniform whether it is green or khaki.
