OMP team met the families of missing persons in Mullaitivu district (54 families), Oddusuddan ( 43 families), Thunukkai ( 17 families) for the 46 series of preliminary inquiry process on 15th, 16th and 17th March 2024.
On March 21.2024, the Tracing and Investigation Unit of the OMP held a workshop titled "Discussion of tracing guideline in collaboration with respective stakeholders" at the SLFI. Chaired by Dr.Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the honorable Minister of Ministry of Justice.
The Office on Missing Persons has taken steps to draft and finalize the National Guideline on Tracing Date-21st March 2024 Time-9.00 am to 1.30 pm Venue-Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Independence Square. The respective line Ministries, Agencies & Institutions will join with us.
On March 14th, 2024, the inaugural Technical Working Committee Meeting convened at the Auditorium, National Integration Unit, Ministry of Justice, focusing on the implementation of key functions of the Office on Missing Persons.
Sixteen Civil Society organizations participated in a consultation organized by the Office on Missing Persons on March 12, 2024, at its office in Colombo.
Foreign affairs Minister Mr. Ali Sabri's comments on the functioning of the Missing Persons Office in the Parliament on 08/03/2024.
On February 19, 2024, OMP had discussions with Registrar General (RG) department in order to find out possibilities of extending the validity of the Certificate of Absence (COA) up to five years.
On February 16, 2024, a Board member and Executive Director of the OMP convened with officials, Matthew Hinso, Political Officer, and Jennifer Hendrixson White, Senior Professional Staff Members from the USA Embassy. The purpose was the ongoing progress of the OMP.
On February 14, 2024, the officials of Families of the Disappeared (FOD) visited the OMP and had discussions with OMP officials on the progress made so far, and the ways to work together. It was a fruitful meeting.
A training workshop was conducted by the OMP with SLIDA to enhance the knowledge of OMP officers on the disciplinary procedure training and inquiry process for newly recruited officers. Certificate ceremony was held on 31st of January 2024 at the OMP Office Premises.
OMP team met the families of missing persons in Kilinochchi District (40 families), Vavuniya District (59 families) and Mannar District (59 families) for the 43rd series of preliminary inquiry process on 26th, 27th and 28th January 2024
