@abandopa I don’t think one can hold a tenure position while availing the fellowship. That has been the premise of these fellowships. Once you have a permanent position you have to let go the fellowship. I hope your guess to be correct to make some sense!

@Kaju_Nut @DhotarAnkit The advertisements mention that one should have minimum 6 years of experience for associate prof position of which atleast 3 years must be assistant prof. Since fellowship is not assistant prof experience, how on earth would one meet eligibility?

@DhotarAnkit @Kaju_Nut Its a crazy system. They are called as faculty. They have responsibilities of faculty. They also guide PhDs and postdocs. Bit in the end their experience is not counted as a assistant professor!

@abandopa A person with a comfortable job in the foreign country will never be able to leave their job for this uncertainty. I am not saying there should be a guaranteed absorption. But there is no chance of absorption if one crosses 35 in India.

@abandopa And they will not be eligible for Associate prof. Position because the fellowship is not counted as experience of assistant prof. Basically, during fellowship build lab, do the hardwork and then leave institute after 5 years.

@Kaju_Nut I wish it is treated as equal and valuable to any regular position. There is no level playing field based on competence. A fellow after 5 years, if not absorbed by host, all their efforts get wasted. Correct me if I am wrong.

Software never asked for spouse's separate residency. She's full-year MA resident. I'm part-year MA then IL. TurboTax assumed same dates for both. Result: ~$420 overpaid in MA taxes + incorrect IL filing. This is a software flaw, not user error.
