She doesn't know how she got home. Sometimes she thinks she had help; sometimes that she reflexively retreated to safety. The answer doesn't really matter, but it's easier than thinking about the part which does. It's hard to say where dreams end and memory begins.

She remembers flopping back onto the couch, her mind dissolving, continuity breaking— A long time later she woke in her bed. Her own bed, back at home, back in the city. Even now she's scared to think about how many days separate those two moments.
