Unless the US can provide a more user friendly model or put out a technically super advanced model that makes it justifiable to stick with closed models or pay for higher token costs, I think most likely either CN will catch up or even take the lead eventually
imagine refusing to try GLM 5.2 while continuing to mourn a heavily guardrailled Mythos 5 model china will win this AI race for three reasons: - lower token costs - stronger government intervention - rise of open-source chinese models/products
@ZackKorman when I was using this for a recent pentest engagement, yeah a higher than average refusal rate for a non US model. And that is where Deepseek and Kimi shine
GLM-5.2 is the most impressive AI model I've ever seen (aside from Fable). This thing just achieved Opus 4.7/GPT-5.4 level intelligence as an open-weight model. Just a few months ago, this would've been considered a frontier-level LLM. Insanely impressive and bullish for the future of open-source.

the AI market is splitting into two camps US companies: openai, anthropic, google, and xAI chinese models: deepseek, kimi, qwen, and Z .ai > deepseek coder and rapid v4 releases are pushing cost-effective, long-context coding > kimi 2.7 code excels at long-horizon coding tasks > glm 5.2 is currently the strongest open-weight model meanwhile, closed-source models cost 5-10x more, for what? just a slightly better response

Just did a quick test of GLM-5.2. My first impression is better than what I had with Opus 4.8. It's surprisingly good at the frontend. Roughly 5x cheaper than Claude Opus 4.8 on API pricing.

@the_codewala No different industry, but from what I am hearing its an infra issue. We currently access claude via Vertex AI and its seems someone messed up vertex internally so no Claude today
@intellectronica very precise responses (Opus 4.8/Fable like precision) but there are some load issues, api calls not getting processed bec 5.2 model is overloaded. For coding its very good in my case, but for security related prompts it has a higher than usual refusal rate.
