In a case that could affect thousands of Native American children, the Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments Wednesday in the case of a four-year-old girl, whose birth mother is Navajo but who is living with a white family who wants to adopt her. nyti.ms/3WKaB3B
@nytimes Birth must be destiny now it seems. Blood and soil is now respectable. How strange! How norms and our sense of progress have changed.
@nytimes Will hear arguments Wednesday, not will begin hearing them Wednesday. The Supreme Court (with rare exceptions) doesn't hold multi-day arguments.
@nytimes My adoptive children were born in Phoenix. Our birth mother wanted to chose a family to adopt her children. She had to go through a separate hearing ICWA.
@nytimes You can bet it has something to do with Nazi Republican money
@nytimes I was taken, and adopted by a white family,I never knew my blood family or my heritage until I was a lot older..#60'sScoopSurvivor
@nytimes Hire indigenous journalists, immediately
@nytimes @nytimes continues to be completely derelict in upholding basis standards of journalism. And integrity? That train left the station long ago. #CancelNYT
@nytimes I don’t understand. Putting the fact that the child is Native American aside, isn’t the ultimate goal of fostering, reunification? If there’s family who’s willing and able to care for the child, why’s there even a question about adopting? The child’s family should have priority.
