Nurologik's pop-up NuroCove at the Audit Wales Staff Conference offered a tranquil reading space featuring books by influential authors in ED&I including Mastering Diversity - We Go Together or Not at All by Bernie Davies. Stay tuned for posts on these captivating books!
7. Oestrogen reduces ADHD symptoms. With menopause that protection disappears. Carefully crafted strategies, masks & hacks developed over a lifetime cease to be enough. Chaos ensues. And that’s why, age 59, I went for a formal ADHD diagnosis so I could start meds. The end
6. Too many women spend their life behind a mask (or masks) without realising, get misdiagnosed, develop unhealthy coping strategies and - at huge personal cost - somehow muddle through. And then menopause hits. You see…
5. It opened the door to specialist support from the wonderful @SwanseabayNHS Integrated Autism Service. Without that, I don’t think I’d have survived the last few years because…
4. Gave me a chance to explore what I need to thrive and the confidence to do what I need. For example, I ask health practitioners to turn off the lights during a consultation. I pre-type why I’m there on my phone and show it to them. I ask them to write what they tell me.
3. Introduced me to the concepts of vestibular system, proprioception and interoception and the world of occupational therapy. My self care and quality of life improved dramatically. [highly recommend ‘Looking After Your Autistic Self’ by Niamh Garvey]
2. Given me a piece of paper I can use people (illegally) refuse to make reasonable adjustments unless you can wave a piece of paper at them. That’s the original reason I went for assessment. I encountered a jobs-worth who refused to make a small adjustment I needed.
I’m Autistic. I have ADHD. I am one of the 1 in 16,000 people diagnosed by the NHS over the age of 50. Here’s what late-in-life diagnosis has done for me. Short🧵 1. Helped me make sense of childhood so I can forgive myself and others. You cannot imagine the relief!

lnkd.in/gFP972cA For those that enjoy art but aren't able to attend exhibitions, Artes Mundi 10 are providing a "relaxed tour" for those with sensory sensitivities at Chapter, Cardiff. Nurologik will be there to provide a pop-up "safe-space" to relax and wind down.
Our first conference exhibit at Mastering Diversity hosted by Bernie Davies. Thank you! We have a long way to go. Together we can make the cultural changes needed for neurodivergent people, and other marginalised people.😊❤️ #neuroinclusion #nurologik #diversityequityinclusion
Happy Wednesday everyone! There's still so much work to #DoBusinessDifferently. But we are making our mark already. Our commitment to #Equity and #Justice has been recognised by being shortlisted for the @socialbizwales awards.
@ena_lloyd @kirsty_cassels @AS_Architecture Hmm, there’s the BSI standards now for the built environment. Or if you wanted someone to talk about the interior design side, Alex runs a great new organisation called @nurologikAlex that can kit out low sensory spaces and advise on office design.
#Nurologik Quiet room - soft furnishings, low lighting, blackout tent, and items to regulate sensory overload. Post-it note feedback: “Quiet room was amazing - best of any event I’ve been to”. Noise-cancelling headphones, earplugs and fidget toys and orchids. #neuroinclusive
Nataniel thinks people with learning disabilities can define community for themselves. #shld2023
Three things a @Neu_DICE Exec Assistant can do: * Virtual accountability buddy to help you stay focused * Act as a 'human duck' (a sounding board to help you organise your thinking, plan tasks and problem-solve) * Run a dopamine-hit 'sprint' session for tasks you keep putting off
Diolch @Arts_Wales_ for promoting "Future of Culture in Wales" I look forward to convening the sector on the 21st July to showcase the amazing work, and identify opportunities to support public bodies to implement @futuregencymru Act Register in link! - arts.wales/news-jobs-oppo…
