Not enough people talk about Kenny Lofton: • .299/.372/.423 • 68.4 WAR • 622 (!!!) SB • 4 Gold Gloves • 2428 hits, 1528 runs • Never struck out 85x • Led league in SB 5x Somehow, just a one-and-done on his only HOF ballot (3.2% or the vote in 2013). An injustice!
@notgaetti You leave out HR and RBIs. Those carry weight
@notgaetti Can’t believe he didn’t get more HOF consideration. That man was a problem in the 1990s
@notgaetti Amen. Seeing him play in person, I came away with memories he was just better than everyone on the field. Amazing athlete
@notgaetti You lost me at WAR Never an applicable “stat”
I believe 2013 was an absolute logjam due to all the steroid guys still being on the ballot. Lofton was the protypical leadoff man for me - in part because I came of age as a fan right about the time he had taken the torch from Henderson (though Rickey would manage to lead the AL in walks and SB in '98).
@notgaetti How many of these voters were born before 1995? Those are Hall of Fame numbers.
@notgaetti He was my HoF leadoff hitter on my APBA team for years
