RT if you've been alive longer than Australia Day has officially been celebrated on 26th January as a national public holiday (since 1994).
@nordacious @DanClusters2022 I'm 64 in a few wks ,I remember Celebrating Australia Day on the 26th all my life, what are you on about.
@nordacious @ScottCowen86 1988 (not 1994) as a national holiday. Various other versions (Foundation Day and Anniversary Day) date back to the early 1800s. Let’s be accurate when having the debate, lest the argument be lost on a technical point.
@nordacious It was originally 30th July, first celebrated in 1915 to raise money for the war effort. It wasn’t until 1935 that it changed to 26th January. Just saying.
