At Facebook, I coined a term called Filipino Product Market-Fit: Every year a product manager would observe their new product getting intense adoption in the Phillipines and proclaim their idea was working. Directors would quickly staff the team and alert their VPs of the newfound discovery—only to find out that the pattern was not reproducible in other countries. The Philipines has one of the highest time-spent online in the world and they will try literally anything for a few days.
@nikitabier OGs recall the incredible Brazilian product market fit Orkut had… quite something
@nikitabier same same for classic rock radio markets in the 1970s for breaking bands, wild phenomenon, Cleveland rocks lol
@nikitabier They love everything. You can’t take the research in PH literally. Eg. employee surveys run up high, content catering in English runs up high. Anything online you’re at least 5x any other English speaking country of time spent.. and they usually like stuff/positive on things
@nikitabier I’ve heard Australia is the best testing geography for new IG features
@nikitabier @dkardonsky_ test product market fit here
@nikitabier Great finding. So that taught them different things works for different markets
@nikitabier Early days of MySpace - lots of Filipino users.
@nikitabier Axie infinity basically got the flywheel going relying for like 90% on the Philippines in the early days
@nikitabier Good insights to know. You could chase a ghost 👻
