@nikhilhoganshow Lots of cool circles!
@nikhilhoganshow Hoping for a mention of both tuning and ratios
@nikhilhoganshow "the first comprehensive study" ...? If you're taking audience questions for this interview, I'd be curious to know Prof. Dodds' thoughts on Carl Dahlhaus' 'Studies on the Origins of Harmonic Tonality' – a tome that is itself concerned with this "transition"!
“I feel free because I have been through the mill” –Claude Debussy in conversation with his former conservatory professor, Ernest Guiraud
Claude Debussy studied Partimento Professor Robert O. Gjerdingen, author of 2020’s “Child Composers in the Old Conservatories: How Orphans Became Elite Musicians”, explains how even a composer regarded as modern, received training in partimento under his teacher Auguste Bazille…
@nikhilhoganshow Yes, tuning! Finally.
@contralto_C3 @nikhilhoganshow is the best music podcast ever
@nikhilhoganshow Thanks for another informative discussion with Dr. Gjerdingen! I was particularly thrilled to hear him discuss Dahlhaus’ “On the Origins of Harmonic Tonality”, an indispensable volume.
May God grant him eternal rest. Amen.

@nikhilhoganshow Well the more I read about it the more that seems to be the case..... Yet I have to admit it would take considerable effort to "get used to" hearing, eg, Chopin etudes at a slower pace!
@nikhilhoganshow Well this is a fascinating quote, on a topic that has been growing in prominence over the last decade or more ("Authentic Sound" on YouTube, etc). Is there a definitive answer to this tempo question?
@nikhilhoganshow it took a couple years after Grade 9 for me to really start picking up anything
@nikhilhoganshow How about some improvisation? I can assure you that it’ll feel like you’re always practicing a new piece and you also get to develop further skills! If I may, I would suggest this course in improvisation: pianist.academy/impro
@nikhilhoganshow What are the hard skills one should really consolidate? What’s the ideal sequence in learning the various subjects such as harmony theory, Solfeggio, counterpoint, etc.? (all without going to a conservatory) Thank you Nikhil, and this is going to be the greatest discussion!
@nikhilhoganshow What would be a good path for someone who is able to sing well, can sight read, and has a good foundation in music theory, but isn’t great at playing the keyboard to finally able to write fugue? Which textbook would you recommend to study in sequence?
Here’s another improvisation from the very much enjoyed interview at the Nikhil Hogan Show! ➡️ This time it was in the baroque style! 🎹 #piano #improvisation #baroque #style #interview #challenge youtu.be/7xBiFGN1tNU
