The Los Angeles Fire Department is mourning the death of a recruit who risked his life to render aid at the site of a traffic crash on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in Studio City Monday morning. The unnamed recruit was on his way to training at the Los Angeles Fire Department academy when he was killed. The crash involving a pickup truck with a trailer was reported just after 5:11 a.m. on the northbound 101 Freeway at Campo de Cahuenga in the Studio City Area. The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the area. "Shortly after 5:00 AM this morning, a Los Angeles Fire Department recruit firefighter en route to academy training was fatally injured, when he stopped to render aid at a traffic collision with injuries on the northbound Hollywood (US 101) Freeway south of Vineland Avenue," the department iannounced Monday. "Despite the best efforts of LAFD and other emergency responders, the recruit firefighter died at the scene Say a prayer for an unnamed hero who did his duty before it became his job God bless him
@nettermike I really, really hope LAFD treat his passing like a loss of a full fledged firefighter. Guy earned it.
@nettermike I remember years ago riding with a tow truck driver after my car broke down on a highway at 3am and he said to me, never get out of your car on the side of the highway. I’ve seen so many people killed that way by drunk or sleepy drivers. Incredibly dangerous. So sad.
