Why is it so important for 11-16 year olds to dress in a strictly enforced uniform in order to be educated, and then totally unimportant for 16-23 year olds to do the same? If it’s about preparing for work, why is that only important when they are younger?
@naomicfisher Maybe it’s less about preparing for work and more because the child whose family can’t afford nike airs doesn’t feel different/embarrassed around those who can
@naomicfisher Especially as loads of work places dress casually nowadays.
@naomicfisher I’ve always believed teenagers developmentally need to rebel. Uniform gives them something totally trivial on which to focus their rebellion.
@naomicfisher As a mother of 5 the way I see it is, whether or not I personally agree, if I accept a place for my child I agree to abide by the uniform policy. It's as simple as that for me 🤷🏻♀️
@naomicfisher It's not about preparing them for work. Anyone making that claim isn't thinking very deeply about it and is just reaching for a convenient sound bite. Uniform is about a lot of things and is fundamentally a bloody great idea which most schools very badly because they don't think.
