No, get the government out of the retirement business. End SS for everyone under 50 Means-test anyone that applies for benefits. If you have a million or more in assets sorry but you don't need welfare, 40-50 gets additional IRA tax benefits to transition It won't be cheap, but we need to do it.

@esrtweet There is exactly no difference between SS and any other government program. We are 40 Trillion in debt, any spending, including SS, is borrowed. Why isn't Gen X complaining about paying for Medicare, or SNAP, or Section 8 housing, or any other spending program?

~End ss for everyone under 50 now ~transition 40-50 with additional IRA tax benefits ~Means test anyone who applies for benefits. If you have a million dollars in assets, sorry but you don't need welfare. ~Offer tax incentives for retirement savings but otherwise keep government out of the retirement business

Let's all just stop paying taxes that don't have a direct benefit to us, how would that work? The idea that 'it's not fair' could be applied to ANY tax imposed on us. Hey, it's not my fault poor people didn't plan better to eat, let's let them starve, to hell with SNAP or food stamps I'm not responsible for them! Parents should pay for their kids schooling, not me. Section 8 housing?? Let them freeze! As far as "paying in" is concerned, you absolutely do have to "pay in" to qualify. You have to pay in for 40 quarters to be eligible. It's a quid-pro-quo: you pay in, you get benefits. Let's talk about fixing it instead of this nonsense.

@MattWalshBlog End social security for everyone under 50. Pay the people over 50 the benefits they have been expecting. Make some kind of sunset provision to ease the 40-50 year olds into their own retirement plan. Reject any future effort for the government to be involved in retirement plans.

@Ron_of_Ockham Good lord, I hope you don't also intend to completely screw over the next generation by using Medicare. Yes you are eligible, yes you paid into it, but how DARE you use it!!!! Don't you love your children and grandchildren? How could you do this to them??

@BrassKickerLLC I wonder if they moved the selector to full auto before taking the safety off. Total rookie move if they did.

@MattWalshBlog SS from its inception was designed to be paid for by the 'current' generation, there wasn't a 40 year delay for benefits. This is an uncharacteristically poorly thought out post from you, Matt. Try again, think it through, and offer a meaningful solution rather than this slop.

@davec_NH There is a reason you have to pay into Medicare your entire life but can only use it after age 65. Opening it to those who have not paid into it will destroy it very quickly, but that's the plan, isn't it.
