A few happy facts that not many of us Americans realize: ➡️ Solar power is the cheapest form of electricity we've ever had access to. It's cheap and profitable to build, and even cheaper to operate. Even right now, even with battery storage for unprecedented grid reliability. ➡️Because of this, 52% of all new US generation this year was solar (and a full 86% of it was non-fossil!). ➡️ Meanwhile, 100% of retiring power plants are fossil fuel. The net effect will be more abundant and more reliable power for all of us, even if you don't even care about air quality. Hot tub parties and super fast electric cars (or bikes) for all! 💪 More coming in my next article, but here's the source of this chart: energy.gov/eere/vehicles/…
@mrmoneymustache If we are going to talk true happy facts, nuclear > solar.
@mrmoneymustache What about the whole grid collapsing if supply and demand are misbalanced and the market being willing to pay any price to keep that from happening? Cost per MWh average not reflective of system costs
@mrmoneymustache How long do solar panels typically last?
@mrmoneymustache 💯 Just turned our Tesla solar on two days ago. Driving our car on sunshine again!
@mrmoneymustache Yes! Spread the word, renewable energy for the win!
@mrmoneymustache Fantasy land... Intermittent power. What melts the steel when the sun isn't shining? In New York we have 4.7 GW of installed solar doing nothing these days. Its winter time in the northern latitudes...
@mrmoneymustache Issues with wildlife displacement here due to the massive amount of land the solar farms use.
