Something I really appreciate about Google’s culture around AI is how transparent things are. 30 days in I feel like I have a great understand of where we are going from a model perspective.

Had so much fun chatting with my friends @TrentonBricken and @_sholtodouglas. No way to summarize it, except: This is the best context dump out there on how LLMs are trained, what capabilities they're likely to soon have, and what exactly is going on inside them. You would be…
“There’s a future where the distinction between small and large models disappears. And with long context, fine tuning might disappear. You can imagine a future where you just have a dynamic bundle of compute. And infinite context specializes your model.” @_sholtodouglas
This is a seriously impressive model. For example: I wanted to test with an in-the-wild example so I threw in a 45-page home inspection report I had lying around, and asked for a summary. It barely made a dent in the context window (23K tokens out of max 1M), and I think it did…

Gemini 1.5 Pro is widely available now. Long context is great but it's also just a great model, better than GPT-4 on most of our metrics. And it's free!

We're starting to roll out API support for Gemini 1.5 Pro for developers. We're excited to see what you build with the 1M token context window! We'll be onboarding people to the API slowly at first, and then we'll ramp it up. In the meantime, developers can try out Gemini 1.5…

Both the process of knowledge creation and of programming rely on the cycle of conjecture and criticism, aka debugging. If AGI is capacity to create new knowledge, then the artificial programmer is the drosophila of AGI. Very excited for @cognition_labs on taking this first step!

I am really excited to reveal what @GoogleDeepMind's Open Endedness Team has been up to 🚀. We introduce Genie 🧞, a foundation world model trained exclusively from Internet videos that can generate an endless variety of action-controllable 2D worlds given image prompts.
Multimodal error correction over code has been my dream for a while, and it's so wild to see @mckaywrigley demonstrate the beginnings of such capabilities with Gemini 1.5 Pro! Crazy to think that things like this will soon become the default that people expect from all models.

IMO, Gemini 1.5 Pro is the largest leap in long form video understanding since I started my PhD in long form video + language understanding back in 2016, and more will be coming 🔥

So exciting (if a bit surreal) to see this out in the world. This is just the very first milestone for the Gemma model — the power of OSS is where the community takes it from here. Can’t wait to see what you all build and discover!

Dang, multimodal video + a GPT-4 class(?) + huge context windows results in some really crazy capabilities. I uploaded a video of a crowded street scene and Gemini 1.5 was able to answer detailed questions about what happened in it, down to individual car brands and types.
I put an entire codebase in a text file and gave it to Gemini 1.5 Pro. I gave it a task that required updating ~10 files across the entire codebase - so decently complex. It got about 80% of the work done for me on a 1st attempt. Watch to see in-depth on how it performed.

I prefer p(life) over p(doom). Define p(life), heuristically, as the probability that you are alive in some ~hundreds of years. p(life) subsumes x risk. But p(life) also includes terms that care about the (extremely likely!) chance that you and you loved ones die from an…

Extremely excited to open-source our SWE-agent that achieves SoTA on SWE-bench😃 Turns out ReAct + Agent-Computer Interface (ACI) can go a long way, very excited about the implications for SWE and beyond!
SWE-agent is our new system for autonomously solving issues in GitHub repos. It gets similar accuracy to Devin on SWE-bench, takes 93 seconds on avg + it's open source! We designed a new agent-computer interface to make it easy for GPT-4 to edit+run code github.com/princeton-nlp/…
SWE-agent is finally out. A few highlights: 1. Agent-Computer Interface (ACI) design will be critical for the success of AI agents, much like HCI is critical for how effective humans are with computers. 2. You can use SWE-agent out of the box on any github issue. (1/2)
