Some hard-right Republicans are signaling openness to federal dollars being used to pay for the replacement of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore —- though some want spending cuts to offset the cost, foreshadowing a possible fight over the upcoming package. Chip Roy told me he understands the call for Congress to step in “but we got to see what the deal is and obviously I believe in paying for everything as you go. So I want to look at how we're going to pay for it. … But again, I'm not a guy that supports blank checks.”
@mkraju Well, it is on a federal interstate. Btw, if this occurred in any of their states they would be grateful for the financial support.
Republicans first thought is always "What do we cut to pay for this emergency need" What they refuse to ever say is "What revenue do we increase to pay for this" Corporate and wealthy tax rates have plummeted for decades, all thanks to Republicans. Trump increased the debt by 40% in a single term largely because of tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations. Stop trying to cut and take away when the solution to solving our deficit and our debt is, always has been, and can only be, increased revenue through proper taxes on the wealthy and corporations. If all US corporations actually paid the CURRENT tax rate of 21%, there wouldn't be a deficit, there would be a surplus. But corporate tax law is purposely full of loopholes to allow companies like Amazon and Google to pay rates as low as 6-9%, much lower than the middle class pays. The US is at a point where it cannot cut its way to a surplus without significant cuts to the military and neither party is willing to do that. The answer is taxes.

@mkraju Lets tax the churches to pay for bridge...or raise taxes on handgun purchases
@mkraju What happen to the trillion dollar infrastructure money that was passed?
@mkraju This bridge is important to all Americans. Federal dollars should be used to rebuild it.
@mkraju @bashtidad We could raise taxes on billionaires. F their cuts.
@mkraju They didn’t object to federal funds being used for the bridge in Florida
@mkraju The bridge is needed. Republicans need to have a “Come to Jesus“ moment.
