@KintuLabs Beware, this is a classic tarpit idea. The reason it doesn't exist is not because no one has thought of it before. People think of it constantly. Which is not to say it's impossible. But before you try it, you have to be able to say why everyone else has failed.
@paulg @KintuLabs I built this and even raised money to do it. The reason it doesn't work is because it's a no man's land for frequency and AOV. It's low for both which makes it a terrible business model. We pivoted out of this immediately.
This resonates a lot. Most such ideas aren’t really viable startup ideas because the use case isn’t urgent/ frequent/ intense enough. I too, had to learn this the hard way as a founder. In fact, surprisingly enough, even the most well-exposed 1st time founders tend to fall into these traps. From what I have observed, this is often due to not asking a basic, business-sense question of “is there a real business here or not?”. Rather, trying to role-play a founder by reading blogs, consuming videos and force-thinking new startup ideas. This is a major 1st time founder trap that’s not discussed as much.
@mikekarnj @paulg @KintuLabs low-frequency businesses could become possible in the future with help of an AI. Even if something cannot become an unicorn startup, doesn't mean that it can't bring some value to some people
