Columbia/Barnard Rabbi tells his Jewish students to go home -university can’t keep them safe. I can’t believe this is happening. — Dear Yavneh, What we are witnessing in and around campus is terrible and tragic. The events of the last few days, especially last night, have made it clear that Columbia University’s Public Safety and the NYPD cannot guarantee Jewish students’ safety in the face of extreme antisemitism and anarchy. It deeply pains me to say that I would strongly recommend you return home as soon as possible and remain home until the reality in and around campus has dramatically improved. *It is not our job as Jews to ensure our own safety on campus.* No one should have to endure this level of hatred, let alone at school. If you need assistance please reach out to me. May we see better days on campus soon. Chag Kasher vSameach, Rav Elie Buechler Director OU-JLIC at Columbia/Barnard
I'm not Jewish, but I think that counter demonstrations should occur. Peaceful counter demonstrations. If people holding an Israeli flag in a large group stand next to this thing––you can videotape a goldmine of antisemitic material that will put these antisemites in a really vulnerable position politically/socioculturally
@mijalbitton So what, we Jews turn tail and run, that is your solution?! Might as well open a Jewish only university, right? Because it's not likely to change anytime soon, as you say it's not controllable, so Jewish people should just avoid going to college altogether? That's not the answer
@mijalbitton @BillAckman If anyone needs a lawyer or feels unsafe at Columbia University please let me know- I will represent you!
@mijalbitton Hmm what’s happening here though? It doesn’t seem that it’s this anti semitism festival.

@mijalbitton What a horror. Israel is, oddly perhaps, actually the safest place for Jews.
@mijalbitton This is the time for the Jews pro-Palestine to show up on the campus and show solidarity.
@mijalbitton @neontaster Columbia's acceptance rate is 3.9 percent. They had every opportunity to pick the student body they wanted. This is what they chose.
