There is often much food for thought in @DavidGauke's articles. But this one falls into a common pattern: someone unhappy with their own (previous) party dreams that the Lib Dems should turn into their own idealised version of that party instead.

@markpack @DavidGauke I much prefer @DavidGauke's version of the LibDems to the current "Labour Light" one.
@markpack @DavidGauke Really? Demonstrates a complete lack of understanding about how traditional Conservatism works. I would urge him not to confuse that with Sunak, in any way, shape or form.
@markpack @DavidGauke And the one that supported him in the 2019 GE
@markpack @DavidGauke That would imply that the LibDems are capable of becoming as organised as the Tories used to be. Surely a fantasy?
@markpack @DavidGauke It's incredibly wearying! Create your own party, @DavidGauke, or join the Lib Dems and put forward your ideas from within.
@markpack @DavidGauke The reason Cameron lost control of the Tory party and subjected the country to the Brexit referendum was that after assigning positions to the LibDems he didn't have enough payroll positions left to bribe his Tories into not rebelling.
@markpack I've often wondered why ppl like Gauke, Boles and Grieve didn't join us in 2019, they all had their reasons. I think it's right we didn't agree to a pact with them - it would be used against us, as if we favoured co-operation with right-wingers, to this very day
@markpack @DavidGauke Bang on. He screeches from optimism to doomsterism on the party as well, depending on how close in that snapshot it seems to his worldview.
