Tim Burke — indicted last month on federal charges for obtaining video outtakes of Tucker Carlson’s interview with Ye — wants to be described as a journalist. But should he be? My column: tampabay.com/news/florida-p…
@markkatches I think the definition of a journalist has been skewered over the last 20 years. The profession as a whole has lost the trust of the public. I wonder if the TB Times could meet the traditional journalism code of ethics? What would Edward Murrow think of today's journalism?
@markkatches Actual reporters and journalists do not have political agendas. But burke and many of the people who responded here do have political agendas. Sadly the death of newspapers has turned social media posters and tv personalities into “journalists”
@markkatches @TB_Times He’s a political activist. He’s as much as a journalist as Tucker.
@markkatches What an absolutely disgraceful piece. Monstrous level hack stuff here.
@markkatches The argument that a journalist is defined by their income sources, rather than the practice of doing journalism, is professional and moral malpractice. It’s a gatekeeping affront to the very concept of journalism. Please update this piece to reflect real professional standards.
@markkatches @TB_Times He's still a journalist and the things for which he is facing charges can only be described as journalism. If becoming involved in politics is disqualifying, then what does this say about you? tampabay.com/opinion/2023/0…
