Quick observation about the passage of time. I’m 44. Born in 1980. 1985 to 1995 didn’t feel that different. 1995 to 2005 didn’t feel that different. 2005 to 2015 didn’t feel that different. 2015 to 2024 feels like a different universe.
This is my personal observation. Maybe it’s just natural for my age. Things start passing me by. Maybe there’s been a larger, collective change. Maybe both. I don’t know.
@markallanbovair Everyone worldwide started engaging with the same algorithms, and the algorithms all modeled after one another. Now everything you see is hyperoptimized for those rewards and not for quality. I think everything that changed is a result of that. Butterfly effect and what not.
@markallanbovair Agreed! And what’s crazy is that we had global events happen during every one of these decades. Wars, 9/11, natural disasters, political scandals, disease outbreaks (though not quite at the scale of covid-19), etc. But I swear that 2016 election is really what turned the tides.
@markallanbovair America has been declining since my birth. Our tremendous wealth allowed us to ignore that decline. High tech also fooled us into not seeing it. We’re starting to feel it for the first time. Simultaneously, they have destroyed any sense of culture. It’s going to get a lot worse.
