@eva_kurilova @utotranslucence I would take only *wanting* to cry as a win! 😅 I’m not low sleep needs and there’s a strong correlation between hours of sleep I (don’t) get and how many times a day I cry. But in a non-depressive, kind of funny way. Over like… the dishes. My code doesn’t work. Tea is cold.
Parenting a good/normal sleeper and parenting a bad sleeper are fundamentally different life experiences. Anyone who “wakes up their baby in the morning” or “would never do sleep training” lives in a different reality. I cannot compute. Signed, 15 months of sleep deprivation
Have a little writing app I'm cooking that's designed just for my workflow. As you zoom out, every card flips to a one line summary so you can quickly scan and eval the argument one level up. Using Ollama local models to make these so they're quick and free. So simple, so useful.
@utotranslucence Yeah we did shift sleep up to 6 months. Which did work! But then I went back to work and time together felt much more scarce. Sucks to lose the evening hangout hour with my husband. I guess our revealed preference is to get less sleep in exchange for adult time sans baby
@tomharari I’ve heard so many people who had an easy first and the their second humbled them. I guess we’re lucky we got the hard one first? 😅 My parenting plan for all future children is simply for them to be born as good sleepers
@utotranslucence Omg 8 hours for a toddler is rough. We are praying our one slowly improves as he gets older. Or we’ll just have to give up all free time in the evenings (which is honestly spent eating, cleaning up, life chores anyway so not “free” lol) and go to bed at 8pm. It’s all trade-offs
@utotranslucence I can usually scrape ~6.5 hours which doesn’t seem too bad. But I think the wake ups are what make it feel much worse. Broken sleep cycles. And I’m bad at getting back to sleep after wake ups. So then I lie there panicking that I’m not asleep in the precious few hours for it 😅😭
@utotranslucence Max 9 hours a night, with 1-3 wake ups. Done sleeping between 4:30-5:30am no matter when bedtime is. We did Ferber and that improved things, but only so much. Did all the troubleshooting. Less naps, more naps, bedtime routine, environment, etc. He’s just a low sleep needs guy 🤷♀️
@marinwaves I am also under no illusions about my parenting skills 😄 My kid has a strong personality in the best way (high energy charisma), but it’s clear he is being the person he was born to be with minimal influence from us. I’m just here as a witness
