This heart surgeon put a mechanical heart valve upside down, in a little 13-year-old girl. She was put into ICU when she wasn’t recovering. Eventually after 18 days the staff told the parents that she wasn’t going to survive and they wanted to discuss donating her organs. Luckily, the parents had the presence of mind to seek another opinion so they took her to Seattle Children’s Hospital, where the surgeons found the upside down valve immediately. Always always always get a second and sometimes even a third opinion and be very careful about donating organs .
