Public speaking has taught me to pause instead of using filler words such as “like”, “umm” and “err”. Take a slight pause, recollect your thoughts and speak as though nobody is rushing you.
Recording yourself speaking (I use voice memos on my phone) and listening back helps so much. It allows you to identify how much you rely on filler words.
@mabintou And splitting the crowd into quarters to ensure eye contact with all areas loooooool I actually miss it kinda
@mabintou Absolutely! I would like you to do some public speaking. Any connects?
@mabintou Take a moment to collect your thoughts and speak confidently, as if you have all the time in the world.
@mabintou Pauses scare most people. They panic and fill the empty space with hollow small-talk, or dumb-sounding filler words. There's absolutely nothing "wrong" with pauses... they're powerful. They say so much...
@mabintou “Speak as though nobody is rushing you” is really the key for me! Idk why, but I always felt like I needed to hurry up and say what I need to say or people will stop listening 🫠
