The Prospect of Whitby has been plying its trade by the river since 1520. Today it largely dates from the 19th century but its worn flagstone floor, is said to be original. It was once known as the ‘Devil’s Tavern’ due to it being a notorious hangout for smugglers and pirates.
@livinglondonhis Great boozer. Good varied selection of ales. Nice to sit out overlooking the Thames.
@livinglondonhis Not sure they’ve got the right target market
@livinglondonhis I'm sure I read somewhere, several decades ago, that it was where the first dahlias were landed in Britain. Spent a NYE there in 1986/7-ish. Had a great evening, only slightly spoilt later on by a cork from a magnum of champagne I was opening firing straight into my eye.
@livinglondonhis @MandyPearse Great pub to have a Jar of Ale 🍺
@livinglondonhis Often mentioned in Simon Michael’s wonderful books (highly recommended)
@livinglondonhis I love this pub, great food too.
@livinglondonhis 3 day pub crawl last year, good selection of beers, decent food, great view, time well spent
@livinglondonhis On my list to visit in a months time 👍🏻😁
