the apocalypse is not one big terrifying day. the end of empire doesn't happen in one moment. it's this, right now: the government doing so many terrible things at once that we can't keep track. it's not being able to afford food. it's our taxes going to harming each other.
I usually have a really good memory but so many terrible things have been happening all the time and more and more fascist policies and bills and actions keep being rolled out that I can't keep track and I just can't stop thinking about how desensitization happens
@literElly The slowly heating bathtub and all that
Ah yes, the end of the Roman Empire happened when the Romans started to do terrible things, when people started to not be able to afford food, and taxes were through the roof. These things weren't totally definitely for sure happening throughout the entirety of the Roman Empire and the British Empire and the Persian Empire from the start. America is not an Empire. It's a Republic with hard and soft power that spans the globe - a hegemony. There's plenty wrong with that, but at least be honest with what it is.
@literElly “This is how the world ends, not with a bang — but with a whimper”
@literElly Now do Project 2025 and see what happens if Republicans gain control of the White House again.
