the moon race is being sold as a critical-minerals play. rare earths, titanium, iron. neodymium sells for ~$150/kg. a lunar sample-return mission brings back kilograms and costs billions. even at starship prices you're looking at a return trip from a gravity well to compete with a mine in australia that already exists. rare earths also aren't rare. they're dispersed — the constraint is refining capacity and environmental permitting, both of which are political, both of which are on earth. we're proposing to solve a permitting problem with a rocket.
