having disability accommodations in college was so helpful. i would show up on the first day of a class with my accommodation list and the professors would take one look at it and say stuff like “…that’s not real” and “is there something i’m supposed to do with this”
@latkedelrey I had a professor tell my class that anyone with a disability (like adhd) would struggle to keep a job or serious relationship and would end up homeless and I immediately went home and cried to my mom abt it (being... ya know, an anxious adhd queen)
@latkedelrey I’m terrified of asking for accommodations; every time I’ve ever seen a student ask for them, the teacher has treated them like crap, and ultimately, pushed the student to drop out. Not even sure what it would do for me in my case bc what I need is a whole diff kind of room
@latkedelrey Had a prof once say that they would only honour accommodations that they could reasonably offer to the entire class, otherwise it was unfair to the other students. Meaning they wouldn't allow extra time on tests, assignment extensions, assistive devices that not everyone had, etc
@latkedelrey People are so rude when it comes to disability. Most recent ex: a security guard at work sees me walking up to the entrance and I guess he saw me getting out of my car parked in the disabled spot. He goes, "You're handicapped?? How are you like, able to work full-time??" /smh
@latkedelrey my teacher in HS :) bullied me out of her classroom the first day. infront of the whole class LOL
@latkedelrey i got two professors in trouble for going against me accomidations. it’s thrilling to be able to get up and leave the room whenever i want and they cannot say anything
@latkedelrey I told my professor I needed the big desk bc I was 8mo pregnant and not fitting in a standard desk. He told me to talk to the dude sitting in the desk. So I did. Nothing happened. I was standing the entire hour I was there. In August. No AC in the classroom. 8mo pregnant.
@latkedelrey I pity any professor who says something like this to my daughter. It will be the last time they dismiss anyone with disabilities. If I have to sit in class with her every day to get the point across, I will. 😈
