My name is Kristin Song. On January 31, 2018, my son Ethan was shot in the head in his best friend's house. The father/gun owner stored 3 handguns and ammunition in a shoebox. Ethan's friend had been accessing the guns for over 6 months. At the hospital, the ER doctor slid down the wall, put his head in his hands, and whispered, "Your son is gone." At that instant, all I knew, loved and trusted was imploded into a million tiny pieces. I begged to say goodbye to my beautiful boy. I wanted to kiss his forehead, tell him how cherished he was, and tuck him in one last time. But the doctor begged me to remember Ethan as he was, you see, he was unrecognizable even to my eyes. The day before Thanksgiving in 2018, the prosecutor told me she would not charge the negligent gun owner, and if I wanted negligent gun owners to be held accountable, I would have to change the law. So I did. 6 months later, Connecticut passed Ethan's Law, which requires gun owners to secure their weapons if children can gain access. Then, I learned that so many states stood silent on this issue, so in 2019, I turned my attention to passing Ethan's Law nationally. I met with over 400 congressional offices, 130 of them Republican. In 2022, Ethan's Law was passed in the House of Representatives as part of the Safer Communities Act. Sadly, it was not picked up in the final package. When the Democrats lost the House of Representatives in 2023, I pivoted to passing safe gun storage laws in the States. As a result, Michigan, New Mexico, and Maryland passed safe storage laws. Currently, I am working with 5 states to pass Ethan's Law. I am emotionally and mentally exhausted, but I will not stop until there is a cultural shift in this country where it becomes second nature to secure your weapons around unsupervised children. If you believe in protecting children from gun violence, please follow and repost.
I’m sorry you lost your son. The fault lies with all 4 of you as parent in your failure to teach your sons proper firearm safety. If they understood the dangers as well as how to mitigate those risks through proper training, they would have been less curious and less dangerous upon finding that weapon. The fault does not lie with peaceable people. Threatening to jail peaceable people for your failure will not bring your son back.
So Sorry Kristin my heart is broken 💔 too. On the morning of December 27th My Son Jason Adam Marshall 41 years old was brutally murdered at his home Franklin St Soso Mississippi.Jason was deceptively lured there by conspirators Connie Brewer mother in law and known Alcoholic, Narcotic and Meth drug abuser spice smoking mentally depraved Chris Davis and felony convicted mentally deranged Phil Davis who has threatened to kill Jason Marshall on multiple occasions. Chris Davis was waiting there to murder Jason with a illegally obtained stollen AR 15 Assault rifle. Jason Marshall reported to the Jones County Narcotic Division on multiple occasions that Hope Marshall was buying illegally spice drugs through cash App from a person whom had been busted by the Jones County Narcotic Division several times.. Chris Davis and Connie Brewer had purchased these illegal SPICE drugs that killed Trey McRay Connie Brewers son and the brother of Hope McRae Marshall who herself is Addicted to Narcotic opiates along with Adderall XR (amphetamine) almost identical to meth amphetamine a popular steet drug and also is taking other Anxiety disorder medications. Jones County Family service was fully aware and allowed this evil depravity to continue with 3 small children in that home environment where Eventually the children watched their Father murdered by Chris Davis who had a illegally obtained stollen AR 15. A devastating military weapon of war used by the US Military and Davis discharged the rifle 16 times at close range out side of Jason‘s house in a Premeditated Assassination manner killing of Jason Adam Marshall. 911 was not called until well after the murder. And to add insult to injury Chris Davis who committed this heinous murderous act wasn't even giving a drug test spectrum analysis toxicology investigation. And I seriously doubt that a FBI background investigation was conducted on any of those people. The investigation was done by Jones County Sheriff's Dept case #22408 by Sargent Denny Grahm Badge #18.
Sorry to hear this. As a 2A absolutist and avid gun lover- I could come and say any type of critique but all I can genuinely say is I'm so sorry. If any of my 5 kids left the world in that way then I would blame myself everyday too(especially as a lover of guns). They are weapons. Not toys. As I teach my kids you hold life and death in your hands so treat it as such. Sending prayers your way. I can't even begin to imagine.
@kristinsong3 @natureloverintx My heart breaks for you. 💔 Thank you for what you've done and are doing.
@kristinsong3 @AnnieAndrewsMD I’m sorry for your loss. Let’s hope that there’s no families that are raped-murdered- tortured because you prevented them from having timely access to defensive weapons in a home invasion.
I am terribly sorry to hear you lost your son. As a UK citizen, I've never understood the US gun laws. It seems logical to me that as things stand, it's a recipe for disaster. I wish you luck in your fight and hope that you can bring about change as there have been so many unnecessary deaths which could have been avoided.
My very sincere condolences to you even after all these years. You remind me very much of a close friend in MD. She, her husband, and their older daughters had just attended a political fundraiser. She and her husband attended in separate vehicles. On the way home, W noticed a traffic jam and flashing lights. As she snaked past the accident scene, she recognized her husband's car. He had been killed in a head-on collision by a teen who was texting while driving. W was a widow at 42 w/four children to raise. Because there were no texting laws, the teen got off w/a ticket and driver's ed class. W took it upon herself to change the law. Now texting while driving and causing death or injury results in jail time and fines. It's too bad that laws only change for the better, it seems, when there's grief and death involved. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many. I'm so sorry you lost your son in the cause.
@kristinsong3 *Woman makes life so miserable her son shoots himself *Decides she should nanny the entire country Shut up and quit trying to control people.
I am a gun owner. I have a 4 year old son… I have a double locked suitcase style gun case locked with 2 combo lock and only I know the combo, not even my wife. Further more my ammo stays separate from the gun case fucked away. I completely support this bill and i am so truly sorry about your son 😞
