I think that before we start calling the Jordan Neely killer, Daniel Penny, a good Samaritan, and attacking Alvin Bragg's office for charging him with manslaughter, we all need to understand a few important things: 1) It is both possible that Penny thought of himself as a good samaritan, while also being guilty of manslaughter. Involuntary manslaughter would be any crime in which a defendant had no intent to kill, but accidentally or inadvertently killed someone as a result of negligent or dangerous behavior. 2) Stop claiming that racism was involved, when there doesn't appear to be any indication of such. Doing so does a disservice to victims of actual racist crimes. 3) Both sides need to let the case play out. Although you may think you know the full story from seeing pictures or videos, there is so much that the public may not know yet. Let's hear your thoughts.
@krassenstein From a legal standpoint, he was likely justified in subduing Neely. The question becomes at what point was that threat effectively neutralized and was there an opportunity to de-escalate. In a sense it's similar to the George Floyd case.
@krassenstein Why aren’t the 2 black guys that held his arm’s getting charged with accessory to manslaughter?
@krassenstein Racism may not have been part of Penny's actions. Maybe. But it sure is part of the public response. It's White conservative Christians who immediately created a defense fund for Penny. I have a hard time believing they'd do that if the races of those involved were reversed.
@krassenstein Ice broken up many altercations, had to subdue many people. I've never choked someone to death. Especially when there was two other people helping to hold the guy. Pretty sad.
