We invested in a flour making company. Here's why. Roti/Chapati is a staple food for most regions in India after rice. The avg consumption is 6kg of wheat/month/person. 15% of India currently buys packaged wheat flour spending approx $2 billion every year. But most of the rotis or breads we eat lacks the basic nutrient values. The typical wheat we mill ourselves or buy from supermarkets, is not as nutritious as we assume. Because most of the nutrients in the wheat grains are lost during the grinding process. Since a substantial portion of the population relies on wheat flour for their dietary needs. We wanted to explore if there can be a healthier alternative to existing flour options. At @Rainmatterin we want to create an ecosystem of products and brands that are healthier alternatives for Indians. We are excited to partner with Pranjal @pranjal_y & Arjun @arjunrungta co-founders at TWF Flours @twfflours. They are working on techniques to ensure the maximum amount of nutrition is retained during the milling process. Here is a detailed post of the announcement and a note from the founders on what they are building and why zerodha.com/z-connect/rain…
@kmr_dilip Is that why even @officialparleg /Parle Agro is venturing into it
@kmr_dilip Am glad that you are investing right at the source of our nutrition. Instead of telling people to change habits help them with whatever they have best acces to and can actually afford to change
@kmr_dilip TAM for such health focused products is very small, Yes a lot of indians buy wheat flour but if you remove middle class & lower class people from it who’re price sensitive, Then you’re looking at very small portion of people who’re at the top of the pyramid by earning.
@kmr_dilip great work! was very concerned about this downtoearth.org.in/news/agricultu…
@kmr_dilip Wheat is unnecessary, has gluten and should not be a part of anyone's daily diet, if one has to include carbs rice/millets is a multifold better option.
