@nhannahjones Yeah, back in the 70s, I was always surprised that history ended with WWII. Perhaps it's because 20 years seems like a long time when you're a teenager? I'm now of a mind that 100 years isn't really so long.

@RachelLaing FWIW, I believe ADUs won't create enough housing to fix the problem. You need new acreage for developers to build dense units. Maybe consider planned development of 3 to 5 story apartments in office and retail parking lots? That way, new housing is near either work or shopping.

@Sammy_Roth So, let's say we cover all the interstate highways first. Maybe just those in places with lower population. How much acreage do we get? Is there a problem with doing this? The land is already disturbed, and the highways generally connect with major population centers.

@djrothkopf Yeah, Mastodon is new and has some big flaws. There are ways you can "verify" (linking to a website), but that's not perfect and it's not clear users will notice. Hopefully it will grow into a better place. Meanwhile, Twitter has Elon, and I just can't support that.

@besttrousers Does "ADUs everywhere", a current YIMBY policy, actually create much new housing? I don't think so. Let's do some urban planning and create policies that really change things! Maybe redevelop strip malls into mixed use or put housing into office parking lots?

@Nartist There are lots of good servers. Some general purpose ones: mstdn.social , masto.ai , mastodon.social . Note that they're all bogged down right now, but that will improve over time.

@drvolts @SolarRosana Note that this isn't about power from the grid, it's about internal house wiring. It really benefits old houses where wiring can't cope. Modern houses won't want this, instead opting for a central battery that allows all appliances to share.
