Have I mentioned lately that I read every single one of my Goodreads reviews? (I wouldn't recommend it!) I read them mainly out of curiosity, but I do notice interesting patterns. Here are the commonest criticisms: 🧵
The writing is amateurish. The ending felt rushed and there were too many loose ends. The beginning was boring and slow. The characters were annoying and cringey and didn't sound like real young people.
@keslupo It's kinda funny that people who could never write a book feel qualified to judge the one who has. Like, how on earth would you know? 😂 Even the worst, most amateurish writer probably still writes better than the average person giving these reviews lol.
@keslupo I've seen many 1 star reviews saying things like, 'the book cover was slightly damaged' - a fault of the postal service... In your case, those sorts of criticisms can be found on almost every book ever. I think someone online created a copy-and-paste critique for haters.
@keslupo I amused myself today by looking up 1* reviews of my favourite books, then looking at those accounts to see how many 1* reviews they dished out. It gave an interesting insight to their opinions in general.
@keslupo Youre brave when i start publishing in earnest, i will never touch goodreads reviews... thats for readers lol And as a reader myself, i know how harsh and subjective i can be... i wouldn't want authors to see my reviews... cause i leave them for other readers
