To call this an intelligence failure is too simple. Every single piece of defense -- air, land, water -- failed. It is inexplicable to those of us who have worked with them or know their capacity. @CNN

@juliettekayyem @CNN What's odd is that it's almost 50 years to the day since nearly the exact same thing happened during the Yom Kippur War.
@juliettekayyem @CNN Britain famously allowed a German air raid to occur in WW2 because they didn't want the Germans know that they had cracked their code but sometimes attacks can useful to stir the people or other unspoken motives.
@juliettekayyem @CNN It happened to us on 911.
@juliettekayyem @NormOrnstein @CNN The question is this: would Netanyahu ignore the intel and allow such an attack for the subsequent “rally round the flag” effect, in order to resolve his multiple problems? You can’t answer “absolutely not”, can you?
@juliettekayyem @CNN Perhaps it’s a power grab by Bibi. Who’s going to fight his domestic justice system takeover when Israel is being attacked by Hamas?
@juliettekayyem @CNN I’m worried Netanyahu will use this war as an excuse to consolidate his power&crush Israeli protesters who want to preserve democracy. Worried it won’t end well for democracy& majority of Israelis who don’t want to make Netanyahu a king. Israel must win this war but at what cost?
@juliettekayyem @CNN Which is why I don’t believe it failed. I think there’s a darker story here.
@juliettekayyem @CNN Did the rest of the world ask these same questions when our intelligence failed during 9/11?
