The counter arguments are also not very nuanced. Everyone seems to just pick a side and claim the other “doesn’t get it.” Reality is messy.

@EnlightenmentA6 @Jonathan_Blow @wookash_podcast 7/ If you’re making a game like Jonathan, these tools aren’t as helpful yet. You can’t afford to outsource your understanding of anything. Much of the codebase affects system-wide concerns. It’s hard to describe what you want in natural language, as the spec is ever-evolving.

It is hard to communicate how much programming has changed due to AI in the last 2 months: not gradually and over time in the "progress as usual" way, but specifically this last December. There are a number of asterisks but imo coding agents basically didn’t work before December

@Jonathan_Blow @wookash_podcast I hear you, but this 1-3 years of claims premise isn’t from engineers who matter. Strong engineers claim that since December, with the release of opus 4.6, it’s no longer a fake meme; it’s distinctly better. Now, we’ll see what happens to productivity claims over the next year.

@_aphid7 @Jonathan_Blow @wookash_podcast Not requiring as much handholding is what usability means. You could make the same argument about coding 5 years ago, which was the same as any LLM-assisted coding but with less hand holding.
