The guy who accused Matt Schlapp of groping him got a $480k settlement to issue this statement and drop his case. Apparently the fact that the money came from ACU’s insurance company is the technicality they’re using to deny a payout. cnn.com/2024/03/27/pol…
@joshtpm A $480k settlement for nothing at all happening. That's quite remarkable!
@joshtpm I feel like this whole situation begs for a santorum-esque neologism to emerge from “schlapp.”
@joshtpm Then it’s not even a technicality; it’s just factually dishonest. Insurance pays on the insured’s behalf. I carry liability coverage for things -I- am liable for.
@joshtpm Wait, doesn't that imply he had a strong case against Matt Schlapp? Insurance companies are loath to part with money as any claim filer knows. You have to take them to court to pay. x.com/joshtpm/status…

@joshtpm If he didn’t do anything, what’s going to stop anyone else who ever encountered Matt from “misunderstanding” him in exchange for a cool half mill
@joshtpm Now wondering about all the payouts through insurance we don’t know about
@joshtpm Yeah, an insurance carrier is not going to pay $480,000 for a "misunderstanding". And, the carrier likely had nothing to do with drafting that statement or the NDA. Those would have been agreed to by the parties. The carrier just wanted a release and a dismissal of the lawsuit.
